A Wild List Appears!

We have a list for you to register your interest in the Alpha, at last! It is time to entertain a wider audience of Glitchen.

First, you MUST have an account on our website. Without it, game access cannot be granted, and your request will be deprioritized until we can reach out to you for more information. We will work on making this more efficient, but it just hasn’t been able to be a priority.

Signing up does not guarantee immediate access; but the plan is to add a batch (10-15?) of folks every few days so we can generate some regular activity in the game. This will allow us to estimate our hardware needs to accommodate a large population of players.

When Two Become One - Children of Ur and Eleven are merging their dev teams, and eventually, there will be One Playable Remake of Glitch, in probably-HTML5 instead of Flash, open to everyone.

That day is probably a long time coming, because all of Eleven is set in Flash and redoing it is going to be a massive undertaking. But someday, we will all be able to wander the streets of Bortola again, and mine for sparkly in Ajaya Bliss.

In the meantime, Eleven is cleaning up code and figuring what it needs to do to allow more people to be involved in Alpha. If you're interested, visit the forum and make an account to say hi.

I stayed on the forums until they closed. Played one last (text-based) Game of Crowns. Discovered the Glitch Archive WP site (very very new; has plans; just started today).

Dammit.

I'm not done yet.

I want ways to bring Glitch out of the internet. I want a Glitch tabletop RPG. I want a purple room with a meditation orb and the meditation music at the push of a button. I want recipes for Awesome Stew and Birch Candy that I can make on my stove. I want to carry Sparkle Powder in my pockets. I want emblems of the giants as cookie cutters, and a shrine to Cosma on my roof, and a bobble-head bureaucroc on my desk at work. I want my Alph robe, even though I think of myself mostly as a lemming, because I like it more than the lemming robes. I want a Firebog Wall Cabinet for my keys and a Purple Journey Beanbag. I want stories of Ilmenskie Jones and Gwendolyn. (Probably not together. Please.) I want a poster of a smiling-face moon and a children's book of The Greedy Street Spirit.

I want to go leaping for quoins in Madhur Hathur, but since I don't get that, I want all these other things.

(I do not want a pet piggy. And I have raised chickens in the past; grain is not what they produce when you squeeze them.)

I already have my maroon-headband-with-lavender-flower and a disco ball. It's a start.

If you've been hiding in denial, you may not have noticed the notice on glitch.com, but they've announced the date for the shutdown of much of the remaining site, and it's the 25th. (Today, more or less, though I haven't seen an exact time anyplace.)

Everything interactive is going away, but the encyclopedia, the snaps, and the profiles will be there for the long haul.

If you have any last words or snaps to publish, now's the time!

The Yuletide Fanfic Exchange this year produced two fics for Glitch,, and I'll repost my recs from the Yuletide LJ-comm...

Both of them are beautiful and both really get the feel of the game, enough to be a balm to those of us mourning the shutdown. The first one is friendly and oddball-funny and innocently naughty, like the game at its best. The second is mythic and offers a melancholy but beautiful meditation on the game's end --- and once you read it, you will never remember The Rube the same way again.

Glitch healed some deep hurts in me that I had forgotten even existed until they were soothed over and gone.

No bad. There was no bad in Glitch. No game mechanics for conflict and rivalry... I don't know how much that created the atmosphere of sharing and helping each other. I just know that I never felt lost or alone in Ur, even as a total newbie who hadn't discovered Global Chat. I wandered around and bumped into things and Stuff Happened (often with rainbows attached), and I collected achievements out of *nowhere* (I'd never played an MMORPG before; had no idea what these things were) and level advancement hit me at random spots for no reason I could discern, and...

I had fun. And I wasn't punished for it. Not even a little bit.

( Eventually, I found Dreamglitch, and that was even more awesome )

I did what I never expected to do in Glitch: banned someone from my street & blocked them from chatting with me.

Once a Glitchen day, you can croak of 'natural' causes, i.e. running entirely out of energy. After that, sniffing no-no powder when you still have some energy left or drinking wine of the dead will do the trick. Chose your site of death carefully if you want get a Diabolical Drink Ticket (prerequisite for purchasing wine of the dead) since you will need someone else to mourn or celebrate your grave while you're still deceased.

Floor 7 will, once I finish acquiring some more Storage Display Boxes, sell various plant beans (wood, gas, cherry, etc.) and herb seeds on the cheap.

In other news, the 'Giant Love' floor is almost complete - we now have all but an icon of Tii assembled there for your convenience of worship. Note this means that

jjhunter is collecting emblems of Tii for iconizing, and will be redistributing other emblems much more freely from here on out.
