Zilloween begins in just over 4 hours, as of this post.

This is Zilloween, this is Zilloween, a holiday (which, for some reason, people tend to repeat) in honor of Zille. A time for costumes, seasonal foods, for gifting candy, and the only time when pumpkins can be grown and carved into lanterns: Zilloween Zilloween, Zilloween Zilloween! Ahem. Excuse us. Overexcited.

Zilloween is a Glitchian holiday, and the only time of year when Pumpkins grow and Pumpkin seeds are sold. Roasted Pepitas are made from carved-and-smashed pumpkins, so it's the only time of year when those are easily available. It lasts 24 hours of real time--6 Glitchian days. The glitch-strategny wiki listing on Zilloween has some info, but it's mostly links to other pages.

Zilloween is all about the Pumpkins
Pumpkins fit 11 in a backpack slot (NEW THING! They used to be 1/stack!). They take 6 real hours to grow, so I'll be stocking up on guano to speed up the growing; with 2 guano per plot, it gets down to about 15 minutes.

Pumpkin seeds are available at gardening vendors; they cost 16-18 c. each, and last Zilloween, they fit only 10 in a stack. (Not sure if that changed when they changed herb seeds to allow 50 in a stack.) They will grow in crop and herb garden plots.

Pumpkins are necessary for Pumpkin Pie (110 energy) and Pumpkin Ale (+50 mood & Moonwalk buff), and Roasted Pepitas which are technically a food but more often a base ingredient for the 3 kinds of candies: Birch Candies (13 energy), Hi-Sucrose Corn Syrup Squares (31 e.), and Raw Bio-Organic Carob-ish Treats (41 e.). All the candies get the "sugar rush" buff, which gives an energy boost and faster walking/running speed.

Zilloween-specific achievements:
Eat candy: 17, 43, 79, 137, 353 candies eaten (on Zilloween) gets you a badge. However, these have to be spaced out; eat more than 10 in a day, and you get the Toothache debuff and can't eat more for the rest of the game day. (This means you can't get many of these badges on any one Zilloween; they wait for the next one to pick up.)

Give candy away: 5, 37, 103, 257, 499 candies given to different Glitches gets you a badge.

Carve pumpkins: Carving all 5 different pumpkins gets a badge. When you carve, the result is random, so it can take many more pumpkins to get this one. Carving requires a pick and a knife-and-board.

Light a lantern: Putting a full jar of fireflies in a carved pumpkin makes a Pumpkin Lantern and you get a badge for doing this. (Only for 1. No extras.) The firefly jar is used up by this.

What to do
Carved pumpkins and lanterns can be placed on your street; people can't move them or take them. Lanterns can be taught up to 3 witty phrases, like gnomes.

Run around like handing out candy like hi's. Meet in Cebarkul to watch the horrific lag and try to hand out candy to people you haven't already given it to. Getting the first two candy-giving badges is fairly easy; after that, you have to go find people. You can give the same candy you get, so you don't need much (or any) to start with.

Carving a pumpkin releases 5 Roasted Pepitas; smashing the carved pumpkin gets 5 more. Candies, pumpkin pie, and pumpkin ale can be made any time of year. There's a lot of pumpkin gardening, and near the end of Zilloween, when people are just *tired* of pumpkins and candies, a lot of announcements in Global Chat of "I have pumpkins in my garden if anyone wants them."

After Zilloween
After Zilloween, all pumpkins out on streets and carved pumpkins will turn into piles of Roasted Pepitas; lanterns turn into Pumpkin Pies. (Those can be taken by anyone, so you'll want to rush back to home to get them, or arrange friends to pick up the results.)

Prep for Zilloween
  • Clear garden plots. You don't want to have just started potatoes when Zilloween hits. (If you have, get guano to speed that up.)
  • Be at/near a gardening vendor so you can buy seeds right away, if you don't have any saved up. (I don't.)
  • Acquire guano. (I'm guano-mining in Dokk Rokk for most of the day if anyone wants a lift. I have the Lavish Laxative upgrade so I get 5 guano per 80c. of food... I use meat.)
  • Get bags, or clear space in the bags you have. Pumpkins fill up your spaces *fast.*
  • Acquire the other ingredients for Pumpkin-based foods.
  • Go through wardrobe options and look for costuming/masks. (Optional. There's no bonus for this; some people just like it.)
Purchase-only Ingredients
Firefly Jars - Alchemical Tools Vendor
Birch Syrup (birch candy), Honey (corn syrup candy, pumpkin ale), Beer (pumpkin ale) - Groceries Vendor

Harvestable Ingredients
Paper, Corn, Butterfly Milk (Butter), Allspice (Nutmeg, Cinnamon), Bubble (Tiny Bubble), Guano, Jellisac, and, of course, Pumpkins & Pepitas.

Candies stack 20 in a slot. Pumpkin Pies stack 5. Pumpkin Ale stacks 10.
Pumpkins fit 11 (unsure about carved ones, or lanterns, but suspect they are singles), and Roasted Pepitas are 50/stack.

Quick note to everyone that we will be reselling pumpkin seeds in the Glitchwidth Pub during Zilloween for Gardening Vendor price (there are some currently being sold at a pre-Zilloween marked up price) as well as various candies and the occasional pumpkin. There are also two firefly hives on my street if you want to start filling jars now in preparation for lighting pumpkins.

Zilloween is totally worth it for the Pumpkin Ale. I mean.. who doesn't love to moonwalk? Especially when they're in a train jacket. :D
